Today, after all my lessons were finished, Mrs. Jang and I were the judges for an in-house story telling contest.
Six 4th graders were presenting to see who would be chosen to compete in a larger competition to take place a month from now (10/19).
Using a speaking assessment scorecard found on Google, we sat down and got to listening.
I believe that there was a list of stories that the students got to choose from (it would make sense - since some of my students had the same story; but I'm not completely sure, I was just asked to judge), but everything else was up to them.
They had to cut and piece together a script that told a smaller version of the book in only 2mins. Memorize the script. Practice the pronunciation. Nail down gestures. And hone it all together to be choosen as the Daepyung contestant.
Phewww!! I couldn't have done all that when I was in the 4th grade. Especially not in a second language! Korean kids are so impressive!!
Yunjoo (she was the 4th student, purple shirt, glasses) won our in-house contest and I'll be working with her every Thursday for a month to help get her ready for the big show!!
Amazingly, Yunjoo doesn't go to an English hagwon. She practices English by herself at home using books and the internet!
I'm very confident that she'll do well in this competition. I don't think she really needs me, but it will be a lot of fun (and super cute) to work with her!
Keep your fingers crossed for her! ^^
