No! This is not about drinking. Which, I don't know if you've noticed, but I've had very few posts about going out and drinking. It's still occurring of course, let's not be that silly, but I have moved on to sharing other things. Call it maturity, call it the wisdom of aging, call it boring. It's just how it is. Perhaps I'll get a drinking post up soon ^^
However, this post is about photography.
Let me admit right now - I am not amazing at photography, but I do happen to have a really nice camera, I do happen to find myself in some really fantastic: events, places, settings and moments in my life and every once in awhile I happen to catch a good, borderline great shot.
And I want to share 7 of them with you.
I got this idea from Bird's blog, who got the idea from HostelBookers.
What's the idea?
Pick 7 of your own photos and share them. Ok there's a little more to it, but not too much, just 5 simple steps:
1. Choose 7 of your own photos, one for each of the following categories:
- A photo that…takes my breath away
- A photo that…makes me laugh or smile
- A photo that…makes me dream
- A photo that…makes me think
- A photo that…makes my mouth water
- A photo that…tells a story
- A photo that…I am most proud of (aka my worthy of National Geographic shot)
2. Write a short description for each image.
*3. Write somewhere in your blog post: 'I am taking part in HostelBookers 7 Super Shots'.
*4. Tell us you have participated and tweet the hashtag #7SuperShots
*5. Nominate 5 other bloggers by including a link to their blog in your post.
Here are my seven.
- Takes my breathe away
This was taken back in 2008 when I was in Zanzibar, Tanzania. It's not the greatest picture, it's not even that beautiful; but the part that I love is that 'Remember' is written on one of the boats. Remember. Remember that day. Remember that place. Remember it all.
- Makes me laugh or smile
I saw this little girl on a day trip to Gyeongju. We were having a walk through a water lilly garden and happened to pass her. She's so sweet! Just strolling along with her bunny purse and leaf parasol. Like it was perfectly normal. And why not! Tell me you aren't smiling!
- Makes me dream
I could be going anywhere. Flying through clear skies lit with the dying light of the sun's sinking rays as the moon steps out into the night. I could be going anywhere...
- Makes me think
How'd he get so calm? How'd he find peace? How'd he quiet all the thoughts, questions, worries and doubts in his shiny bald head? How'd he do it?! (picture taken in Kyoto, Japan 2011)
- Makes my mouth water
Originally I had a picture of Bibimbap for this category. And I do love bibimbap - a rice dish that's topped with any and all vegetables, meat if you like, egg and spicy sauce. OMG it's delicious. But then I found this picture that I took when I visited Scotland in 2010. And it reallllllllllllly makes my mouth water. I'd happily eat bibimbap everyday - and I can - but what I can't eat is a lemon poppy seed muffin. We have Starbucks in Korea, but for some sad, tragic, horrible (first world problem) reason they do not carry LPSM. Oh the shame. So that is why I have changed my submission, and will now be endlessly craving a lemon poppy seed muffin until I can hunt down a Starbucks that carries this delightful tasty treat.
- Tells a story
This picture kills me. It was taken in Macau last summer (2011) and I have no idea what it means! But all sorts of stories come to mind when trying to think of an explanation for it! What does it make you think of?
- Most proud of
Out of the 17,649 photos that I have on my computer, this is my all time favorite! I love this photo! It was taken at the Tiger Temple just outside of Bangkok, Thailand. Looking at this picture brings me such joy. It's as if time just stops, and I am taken back to this moment and that's all there is - just me and these 2 beautiful cats and happiness.
*Simple steps:
3. you need a blog
4. you need to have a twitter account
5. I'm not nominating 5 people, I'm nominating EVERYONE. Blog, twitter or not - everyone should have a look through their photos and recall the memories, share the stories and let their minds wander to places once visited.
